Ladies and gentlemen, it is true. I dated a picky eater and lived to tell the story.

My ex didn’t like many natural foods in general. He was the textbook definition of a Starchetarian, or a vegetarian who lives on highly processed foods that mainly consist of sugar, preservatives, cheese, and refined starch. Imagine a diet with lots of rice, pasta, sandwiches, cookies, snacks, and very little fruits and vegetables. So when I attempted to expand his palate to include more healthy, high-fiber foods he was extremely particular about how they were chopped, prepared, and plated. I would oftentimes sit in the kitchen and pay close attention to how he cooked to get an idea.

Macaroni and cheese had to be baked. No exceptions. And it couldn’t be creamy like a traditional Southern baked macaroni and cheese dish. It had to be firmer like a Caribbean macaroni pie.

Garlic must be minced very small, not roughly chopped.

Carrots had to be peeled, even if they were organic.

Beans and any tomato sauces had to have sugar added to cut down on the acidic taste. I do not taste any bitterness from cooked beans and tomatoes, so I despise adding sugar to these dishes for no reason.
