White People Are Not Obligated To Be Allies For The Black Race!
“Black people are highly ironic whenever they bully white and other nonblack people into being allies for their self-inflicted problems, all while chastising these same people for trying their best to understand us.”
As a black woman I have lost count of the amount of times one of my readers sent me an email or a DM praising me for my work, along with an, “I’m trying to be a good ally” disclaimer. The energy behind their disclaimer is always apologetic, as if they’re trying not to step on my toes.
Please understand that I am saying this with the utmost sincerity:
I am not a child. I do not need to be placated. My life is quite enjoyable and I do not possess any rage towards people that don’t look like me. Therefore, I do not need you to be my friend or my ally. You do not need to censor yourself or tiptoe around me just because I am black and you’re not. I don’t bite! Trust me! We’re both human beings. That should be enough for us to speak freely.
To my nonblack readers, please understand that I do not require you or anyone else to be an ally on my behalf. Supporting any make-believe causes and issues black folks come up with on a daily basis is completely optional.
