Why People Poke Fun At The “Forever Girlfriend”
“The freedom to love any man as I please and graciously bow out of the relationship once it no longer serves me (or him) is a wonderful plus to never having a spouse.
As I have stated before, ‘Weddings are beautiful, and divorce is ugly.’”
I’ve noticed that in some circles it is considered taboo to be anyone’s girlfriend for any longer than 2–3 years without being proposed to. These women are usually labeled as “forever girlfriends.” There is this belief that a woman is being strung along and used if she is not a wife within an acceptable time frame.
If I can be honest, I used to find it odd that some ladies would choose to remain in relationships with their partners and not expect to be engaged almost immediately. But that was before I realized that being a long-term girlfriend, or even never marrying, wasn’t the worst thing in the world. Some women are just not cut out to be wives, like myself for example. I swear, once I really got to know myself I became much more open-minded!
