“Women In America Are Married To The Government” And?!
Do you actually want to be depended on fully? Can you even afford to be depended on fully? Or would you rather women not bother you as they fend for themselves and their children while you send “You up?” texts at 3 AM?
I don’t know about you, but I was enjoying a relaxing Saturday afternoon until I came across a clip from none other than Shahrazad Ali, the retired author who penned books like The Blackman’s Guide to Understanding the Blackwoman, and the inverse, The Blackwoman’s Guide to Understanding the Blackman.
Many black men praise Mrs. Ali for being their voice of reason to black women on how to relate to them and their struggles as men. One man I knew even admitted he felt close to her as if she was his grandmother. So you can bet she earned her accolades amongst this group for speaking up for them and being in their corner, and the short clip I watched titled, “Women in America are married to the government” proved me right.
I always have to chuckle at these woe-is-the-black-man videos because I don’t know whether to feel sorry for them, and men in general, or to continue living in my beautiful existence as a single black woman who doesn’t want for anything with the wisdom that clicked once I decided to give up on men for good: that if I must feel bad for a man I certainly don’t need him…
