“Your Expectations/Standards Are Too High”: Analyzing The Women Who Wait On Men To Rescue Them

“Why wait around for a man to make the world your playground when you are more than capable of getting on the swing set or climbing the monkey bars yourself?”

“You know what?! You are impossible to please. I cannot satisfy you! Nobody can!”

My friend-turned-lover said these words to me years ago. And to this day that conversation still rings fresh in my mind. The frustration, disappointment, and sadness on his face as he realized that he couldn’t please me, the love of his life, is burned into my memory.

And truth be told, he was right. He spent years trying to meet my demands; insistent requests that upgraded constantly and without warning as I began to believe that I deserved more.

When we first met I was okay with being holed up in his apartment all weekend, binge-watching Netflix in nothing but panties and his t-shirt while he was busy making breakfast for me in the kitchen. A few months went by and all of a sudden I wanted to go outside and explore the city by foot, taste different international dishes, and spend time together doing fun activities. And of course I expected all of this to be accomplished on his dime.
